August in Austin is brimming with local events that remind us why we love calling this city home. From sunrise yoga at Zilker to cat conventions and punk rock legends, here’s a roundup of our favorite happenings this month — perfect for families, friends, or solo adventurers looking to soak in the soul of the city.
Every Friday in August | 7 AM | Zilker Park
Start your Fridays with a little breath and stretch at Zilker. Habitat’s Fitness in the Park series offers a 45-minute all-levels yoga class followed by a cold plunge in Barton Springs. Free, soul-fueling, and set in the heart of Austin’s greenest gem. Bring your mat, towel, and water — and thank us later.
August 5 & 6 | Zilker Park
An Austin tradition returns. Blues on the Green brings together thousands of locals for two nights of live music under the stars. What started as a blues showcase has grown into a genre-mixing celebration of local talent — think rock, soul, country, and beyond. Pack a blanket and get ready to dance barefoot in the grass.
August 8–10 | Palmer Events Center
The dinos are back. Jurassic Quest is North America’s largest dinosaur experience, with life-sized animatronics, fossil digs, bounce houses, and enough prehistoric wonder to keep kids wide-eyed for days. A great indoor break from the summer heat.
Through August 10 | TexARTS, Lakeway
Catch this retro musical comedy before it flies away. Bye Bye Birdie serves up 1950s charm, toe-tapping songs, and Broadway-caliber performances right here in Lakeway. A perfect date night or family outing.
August 13–September 21 | ZACH Theatre
ZACH’s immersive twist on The Wizard of Oz features in-the-round staging, a cowboy band, and audience-winding yellow brick roads. It’s interactive, magical, and made for all ages. Bonus points for themed nights and pay-what-you-can performances.
August 16 & 17 | Palmer Events Center
Cats. Costumes. Art. POP Cats is part adoption event, part convention, part immersive playground for feline fans of all ages. Come for the cosplay, stay for the community.
August 23 | Fiesta Gardens
This year’s theme, Silence = Death, is a powerful call to visibility and action. Expect a day of celebration, performance, community, and pride. Festival entry is $20 at the gate, and kids 10 and under are free.
August 28–31 | Multiple Venues
Wrap up the summer with The Front Festival, a four-day celebration of music, film, art, and community powered by women and LGBTQ+ creatives. Pool parties, indie films, and DJ sets all over the city — from The LINE Hotel to Laguna Gloria. Even better? A portion of proceeds supports local artists.
Whether you’re soaking in a sunrise, grooving to live music, or chasing dinos with the kids, August in Austin is all about living loud, local, and connected.
We’re proud to be part of a city that shows up for its people, its artists, and its parks. If you’re thinking about making a move to this magic-filled town (or just want the inside scoop on the neighborhoods that live at the heart of it), give us a call.
