For families considering moving to Westlake Austin or Eanes ISD, schools are often one of the first—and most important—parts of the conversation.
But there’s much more to understanding the schools here than looking at a ranking online.
Which elementary school serves which neighborhood? What’s the difference between West Ridge and Hill Country Middle School? Where is Westlake High School? What if you live in Eanes but prefer private school? And which private schools are actually convenient to Westlake?
As a Realtor, interior designer and mom who has lived and raised my own children in Eanes since 2014, these are conversations I have with relocation families all the time.
So here’s a local guide to the public and private schools in and around Westlake Austin, what distinguishes each option, and what families moving to Eanes should know before choosing a home.
Quick Answer: What Schools Are in Eanes ISD?
Eanes Independent School District currently serves approximately 7,700 students across its school system.
Eanes ISD has five K–5 elementary schools:
- Barton Creek Elementary
- Bridge Point Elementary
- Cedar Creek Elementary
- Eanes Elementary
- Forest Trail Elementary
It has two middle schools serving grades 6–8:
- Hill Country Middle School
- West Ridge Middle School
Students then come together at:
- Westlake High School
The district also operates Adult Transition Services for eligible students age 19+.

One thing is extremely important for relocation buyers:
Do not assume that a Westlake address, a 78733 or 78746 ZIP code, or a real-estate listing saying “Eanes” guarantees a particular school assignment.
School boundaries should always be verified for the individual property with Eanes ISD before purchasing.

Elementary Schools in Eanes ISD
One thing families quickly discover is that Eanes doesn’t have one giant elementary school.
It has five.
That gives each campus its own community and geography within the larger district.
Barton Creek Elementary
Barton Creek Elementary is located at 1314 Patterson Lane in 78733.
For families looking at homes farther west in Eanes, this is an important campus to understand because of its location within the more Hill Country-oriented side of the district.
The surrounding area can feel very different from central Westlake—more trees, hills, winding roads and proximity to Lake Austin.
That’s also why I encourage buyers to think beyond simply saying, “We want Eanes.”
If your child will attend Barton Creek Elementary, your day-to-day geography may look quite different from a family living closer to Bee Cave Road.

Bridge Point Elementary
Bridge Point Elementary is located at 6401 Cedar Street in 78746.
Bridge Point sits in the northern portion of Eanes and is particularly relevant to families looking around areas near Westlake Drive, Loop 360 and neighborhoods on the north side of the district.
This part of Westlake can be incredibly beautiful—hilly, wooded and close to Lake Austin—while still providing relatively convenient access toward central Austin.
For relocation buyers, Bridge Point is another good example of why the elementary-school zone can help shape your neighborhood search.
If you know you want a particular campus, we can work backward from that attendance boundary rather than starting with hundreds of houses.
Cedar Creek Elementary
Cedar Creek Elementary is located at 3301 Pinnacle Road in 78746.
Its central Westlake location makes it relevant to many families considering established neighborhoods around the heart of the Eanes community.
For buyers relocating from another city, this is an area where the geography can be particularly appealing: mature neighborhoods, established community connections and relatively easy access to the schools, shopping and services along Bee Cave Road and Westbank Drive.
Eanes Elementary
Eanes Elementary sits at 4101 Bee Cave Road in 78746.
There’s something meaningful about this campus historically: Eanes School traces its roots to the district’s original schoolhouse community.
Today, its Bee Cave Road location puts it right in the heart of what many people picture when they think of traditional Westlake.
For buyers who value being relatively central within Westlake and close to major routes into Austin, understanding the Eanes Elementary attendance area is worthwhile.
Forest Trail Elementary
Forest Trail Elementary is located at 1203 S. Capital of Texas Highway in 78746.
Its location along the Loop 360 corridor makes it relevant to several established neighborhoods in the southern and central portions of Eanes.
The surrounding landscape is classic West Austin: limestone, hills, mature trees and quick access to some of the outdoor spaces that make living in Westlake feel very different from traditional suburban life.
That’s one of the things I think people miss when they search “best schools in Austin.”
Choosing a school isn’t happening separately from choosing a lifestyle.
You’re choosing the drive to school, the neighborhood, the trails nearby, where your kids’ friends may live and what an ordinary weekday feels like.
Middle Schools in Eanes ISD
Eanes ISD has two traditional middle schools: Hill Country Middle School and West Ridge Middle School.
Hill Country Middle School
Hill Country Middle School is located at 1300 Walsh Tarlton Lane in 78746.
The school serves grades 6–8 and sits in a central part of Westlake, close to several major residential areas and Westlake High School.
For families coming from elementary school, middle school is often when their geographic circle begins expanding.
Kids from different elementary communities start meeting one another through academics, athletics, arts and activities.
West Ridge Middle School
West Ridge Middle School is located at 9201 Scenic Bluff Drive in 78733.
This is the middle school my own family knows personally.
Its western Eanes location places it much closer to communities like Cuernavaca/Austin Lake Estates and the 78733 side of the district.
And this is where something interesting happens in Eanes:
You can live surrounded by hills, nature and Lake Austin, attend a middle school tucked into 78733, and still eventually join students from across the district at the same high school.
That creates a community that can feel both small and interconnected.
Westlake High School
Eventually, the district comes together at Westlake High School, located at 4100 Westbank Drive.
Westlake serves grades 9–12 and is the district’s comprehensive high school.
For families moving here with younger children, high school can seem very far away.
It comes quickly.
I know—I moved here with two little girls, and suddenly I have teenagers.
One of the interesting things about raising children in Eanes is watching those separate elementary and middle-school communities eventually connect.
Students may participate in academics, athletics, performing arts, clubs and other extracurricular activities across a much larger high-school community.
For parents researching Westlake High School, I recommend going beyond third-party rankings. Explore the Westlake High School website, tour when possible, investigate programs that matter to your individual child and talk to families who are actually living the experience.
What About Private Schools Near Westlake Austin?
Here’s something relocation buyers sometimes don’t realize:
You can love the Westlake lifestyle without choosing public school.
Several established private schools are located either directly in Westlake or within a relatively short drive of the area.
That gives families much more flexibility when choosing where to live.
St. Stephen’s Episcopal School
St. Stephen’s Episcopal School is one of the most distinctive private-school options because it’s actually located in 78746 at 6500 St. Stephen’s Drive.
St. Stephen’s is a coeducational Episcopal day and boarding school serving students in grades 6–12.
Its college-preparatory program combines academics with athletics, arts and service learning.
One thing that immediately distinguishes St. Stephen’s is the campus itself.
Known as “The Hill,” the school occupies a beautiful Hill Country setting that feels deeply connected to the natural environment of West Austin.
It also has an unusual history. St. Stephen’s was founded in 1950 and was the first coeducational Episcopal school in the United States and the first integrated boarding school in the South.
For families moving internationally—or families attracted to a school community with boarding and day students together—that dimension can make St. Stephen’s particularly interesting.

Trinity Episcopal School of Austin
Trinity Episcopal School of Austin is located directly on Bee Cave Road in 78746.
For Westlake families, location is one of its obvious advantages.
Trinity is an independent Episcopal school serving younger students through middle school, with an educational philosophy that emphasizes academics alongside social-emotional development, service, arts and other whole-child experiences.
Because it’s right in Westlake, Trinity can be particularly interesting to families who want a private-school education while keeping school physically integrated into their Westlake day-to-day life.
For relocation buyers, that’s worth thinking about.
A school can look perfect on paper, but if you’re driving across Austin twice every weekday, that becomes part of your family’s quality of life too.
St. Andrew’s Episcopal School
St. Andrew’s Episcopal School is a K–12 independent Episcopal school with two Austin campuses.
Its Lower and Middle School campus is on 31st Street in central Austin, while its Upper School campus is located at 5901 Southwest Parkway—very convenient to many West and Southwest Austin neighborhoods.
St. Andrew’s organizes much of its student experience around four pillars:
Scholar. Artist. Athlete. Servant.
That tells you a lot about its educational philosophy.
Rather than defining students only through academics, the school emphasizes intellectual development alongside creativity, physical activity and service.
For families looking for a well-rounded Episcopal K–12 pathway, exploring St. Andrew’s academic program is worthwhile.
Regents School of Austin
Regents School of Austin offers a very different educational model.
Regents is a K–12 classical Christian school located on an 82-acre campus in Southwest Austin.
Its academic structure follows the classical Trivium:
Grammar → Logic → Rhetoric.
In the younger years, students build foundational knowledge.
As they grow, the curriculum increasingly emphasizes reasoning and logic.
In the upper grades, students develop their ability to communicate and defend ideas effectively.
For families specifically interested in classical Christian education, this makes Regents distinct from many other private-school options around Westlake.
Another interesting feature is that all K–12 students share one contiguous campus, allowing the school to build community across age groups.
The campus also includes a Science & Nature Center, and Regents offers visual arts, drama, band, choir, orchestra and other programs alongside its academic curriculum.

St. Michael’s Catholic Preparatory School
Another option many West Austin families consider is St. Michael’s Catholic Preparatory School.
The school serves students from early childhood through grade 12 across its Southwest Austin campuses and combines Catholic formation with a college-preparatory educational model.
For families specifically looking for a Catholic education near Westlake, its Southwest Austin location makes it particularly relevant.
Because private-school structures, campuses and grade configurations can change, I recommend confirming the current program and admissions information directly with the school when you’re planning a move.
So Which Westlake School Is Right for Your Child?
This is where I want to say something that might sound strange coming from a Realtor.
Don’t choose a school because someone tells you it’s “the best.”
Choose the environment that makes sense for your child.
One child might thrive in a large public-school environment with extensive extracurricular opportunities.
Another may respond beautifully to a smaller private-school setting.
One family may specifically want Episcopal education.
Another wants Catholic education.
Another is seeking classical Christian education.
And another may want Eanes public schools because they want school, sports, friends and neighborhood life to be deeply connected.
Those aren’t rankings.
They’re different educational experiences.
Should I Choose the School Before the House?
If education is one of your top priorities, I often think the answer is:
Yes—or at least narrow the schools and neighborhoods together.
This is especially important in Eanes.
Instead of sending me:
Four bedrooms. Pool. Under $3 million.
Tell me:
We have an eight-year-old who loves theater, a twelve-year-old obsessed with soccer, one parent works downtown three days a week, we want our kids to have neighborhood friends, and we’d love to spend weekends outside.
Now we can actually find your neighborhood.
That’s a completely different home search.
Because buying in Eanes isn’t simply about getting inside a school district.
It’s about building a life around your family.

Where will your kids go to school?
Where will their friends live?
How long will your morning drive take?
Where will they play sports?
Can they get to a friend’s house easily?
Do you want to be closer to downtown or closer to Lake Austin?
Do you want a traditional Westlake neighborhood or something more eclectic like Cuernavaca/Austin Lake Estates?
Those questions start revealing which part of Eanes might actually fit your family.
